Pico Acres

Pico Acres is a simple farming sim and farm builder created in Pico-8 over the course of 2 days.

Features:

• 7 different types of crops to plant
• 8 different upgrades
• Many different ways to customize your farm with decorations
• 3 different sprinklers to use

Keybindings (Default Pico-8):

• Arrow Keys: Move
• X Key: Use selected tool/Menu select
• Z Key: Switch tool/Menu back
• Z Key (Hold): Open menu

How to play:

• Use arrow keys to move the player, X to use your currently selected item on the targeted tile, Z to switch items.
• Hold Z to enter the menu. Here you can buy new seeds, upgrades, decorations, and sprinklers. You can also sleep using this menu.
• Purchased items will appear in the item bar when purchased.

• Grass: Can be tilled with the hoe to make untilled soil
•  Untilled soil: Can be tilled with the hoe to make tilled soil. Can also be watered with the watering can to revert back to grass the following day.
•  Tilled soil: Can be planted with seeds.
•  Hoe: Used to till grass and soil
•  Watering can: Infinite uses. Can be used to water crops and seeds. Watering a sprinkler also waters everything in the sprinkler's range.
•  Axe: Can be used to remove branches
•  Pickaxe: Can be used to remove rocks and decorations
•  Secateurs: Can be used to harvest completed crops and remove blight (the purple stuff)

What's not included:

• Saving. This game is too complicated for Pico-8's small save function, even with bit packing. It was either make a 10x10 farm with limited features or make a big farm with many features.
• Town/Romances/House/Inventory System/Farm Animals, etc: Way out of scope for this project as this project was constantly hitting 98-100% token usage, even with heavy optimization.

As of now, I am considering this game feature complete. I may come back in the future to add some more things, like music and more decorations, but the gameplay will not be iterated on. But who knows, Picotron looks interesting ;)
